BENU Rose de Mai Fountain Pen: The Pen I Couldn’t Stop Looking At
Every once in a while, a pen comes into my little shop that I have a hard time treating like regular inventory. Actually, this isn't true. My process as I curate product for the store is small luxiries I really like. My fountain pen hobby has been a whirlwhind. I use a fountain pen for my everyday pen. I carry at least two in my purse. This new Benu is one of them and the way people out in public ooh and ahh...

The first time I saw it, I was like... so pretty! Then when they finally arrived! I kept turning it in the light because the color changes so much depending on the angle. At first you see the soft pink, then the mint undertones start to come through, and then there is all of this warm gold shimmer running through the resin.
It is very feminine, very romantic, and just dramatic enough to make it feel special. I am not a pink girly. But look at me, changing it up. It is going to be in rotation for awhile.
Why Rose de Mai Caught My Attention
I am drawn to stationery that feels beautiful before you ever put pen to paper. I want the things on my desk to make me want to sit down, open my journal, write the letter, make the list, or record the memory. I literally sit down a few times a week to write and send snail mail - mostly letters. The written word is my love language and this pen just elevated my writing experience.
It was inspired by the Rose de Mai roses associated with Grasse, France, and I think BENU captured that feeling beautifully. The resin has this mix of floral pink, fresh mint, and warm honey-gold shimmer that gives it so much depth.
It is not a flat pink pen.
It is not a sweet little pastel pen.
It has presence.
And because the shimmer is distributed naturally throughout the resin, every Rose de Mai looks a little different. That is one of my favorite things about BENU pens in general. They feel less like something stamped out on an assembly line and more like individual little pieces of art.
If you are someone who loves romantic stationery but still wants your pens to feel sophisticated, this one is especially good.
And Yes, It Is Meant to Be Written With
As pretty as it is, I would not want a fountain pen that only looked good sitting in a case. I am of the belief that you should use the things you buy and I take no exception to this pen too.
Rose de Mai is part of BENU’s Tribute Collection and uses a #6 stainless steel nib. It fills with standard international cartridges or bottled fountain pen ink using the included converter.
There are several nib options, including Fine, Medium, Broad, Flex Fine, 1.1 mm Stub, and 1.5 mm Stub, so you can choose something that suits the way you actually write.
I can easily see this becoming a journaling pen, a letter-writing pen, or one of those pens you reach for simply because it makes the page feel a little more special.
And if you are particular about matching pens and inks — as many of us are — there are so many directions you could go with this color palette. A dusty rose, soft brown, muted green, warm gold, or even a rich burgundy would all be beautiful with it.
Why I Chose It for 5 Hearts Paper
When I choose products for the shop, I am not trying to fill shelves with every possible option.
I would much rather have pieces that make me feel something.
That can mean beautiful paper, an unusual ink color, a notebook that feels wonderful in your hands, or a fountain pen that you keep picking up because you want another look at it.
Rose de Mai is exactly that kind of piece.
It feels romantic and a little indulgent, but it is still something you can use every day.
That balance — beautiful things that are actually meant to become part of your life — is a huge part of what I want 5 Hearts Paper to be.
A Closer Look at the BENU Rose de Mai
The BENU Tribute Fountain Pen – Rose de Mai features decorative resin in shades of pink and mint with honey-gold shimmer, finished with gold-plated trim and a matching gold-tone #6 stainless steel nib.
The cap is threaded and can be posted, and the pen uses a standard international cartridge/converter filling system. A converter and one long blue ink cartridge are included.
Because of the way the resin is made, the exact pattern and shimmer placement will vary from pen to pen, which means your Rose de Mai will have its own look.
That feels very appropriate for a pen inspired by flowers.
If This One Is Calling Your Name
