Since 2021, Sanzen Paper of Kanazawa has carefully carried on the Tomoe River legacy, producing ultra-thin, fountain pen–friendly paper with a touch more texture and durability than the original. It retains the signature smooth writing experience while offering a slightly sturdier feel and a delicate tooth that many writers appreciate.

At 52 gsm, this paper is remarkably lightweight yet surprisingly resilient. Fountain pen ink glides effortlessly across the surface, showcasing crisp lines, vibrant shading, and beautiful sheen with minimal feathering or bleed-through. While some ghosting is still present—as expected with papers this thin—many users find it slightly reduced compared to the original Tomoe River paper, depending on ink choice and writing pressure.
