Mermaid was conceived as a slow reveal. Laid down, it begins as an aquatic blue, fresh and open like clear water near shore. As it dries it transforms: sea green emerges, then subtle rivulets and halos bloom outward in pinks, blues, and storm-soft greys, echoing currents, depth, and movement. It never settles into a single colour, living instead in the spaces between, changing with paper, light, and time. The shimmer is new to the range, a silvery lavender with a soft iridescence that recalls fish scales beneath the surface. It drifts through the colour rather than dominating it, catching light at certain angles and then vanishing again. Van Dieman's first Ink of the Month release for 2026.
Try before you commit to a full bottle. Each sample is hand-decanted into a 4ml glass vial with a screw-top cap and a labelled colour name, so you can test the shading, sheen, and flow in your own pens on your own paper first.
This is a shimmer ink. Shake gently before each fill, and use it only in fountain pens that can be easily disassembled for cleaning. Dip pens and brushes are always a safe bet.
